Topic Workshop #2 Recap
What We Did…
On Monday, May 20, 2024, the Eastland community came together at Barnett Community Center to discuss education, opportunities, and jobs. We had 44 participants who heard a presentation from the Eastland Planning Team and participated in engagement activities. The information below is a high-level summary of what was discussed during the workshop.

What We Heard…
Education
First, we explored education, covering background information about local schools along with key findings on enrollment, attendance, graduation rates, and barriers to education. Our discussion and activities focused on these aspects, and how the Eastland plan can help the community identify the necessary strategies and resources to address these issues.

Existing Columbus City Schools and Community Schools in the Eastland area
We organized the discussion around how the Eastland community plan could help Eastland’s children and youth thrive. With this in mind, we asked the community to suggest tools, programs, or interventions that local schools and community partners could provide to address these challenges.

Jobs and Opportunity
The next topic focused on how the community wanted the plan to address jobs and opportunities within the Eastland area. During this section, Matt Wetli from Development Strategies presented the results of the existing conditions and market analysis of the area. Our discussion and activities focused heavily on these findings and what solutions the plans could provide.
